Prayers for Lebanon: Encouragement from the Global Church

While the church in Lebanon responds to immediate and long-term needs in the aftermath of the massive explosion on August 4, the global church is supporting the response by raising awareness, praying for those in need, and donating to support the relief efforts. One unique way we can encourage specific churches responding in times of crisis is through the prayer page at the NCM website. Prayers submitted on that page are shared with regional leadership to let them know they are uplifted and supported.

Below are some of the prayers and encouragement that have been sent to the church in Lebanon through our website this past week. We encourage you to join with these prayers and lift up those who are hurting.

To support relief efforts, give to the Lebanon Crisis Response fund.

Heavenly Father, please provide the daily needs of food, water, and shelter for our brothers and sisters in Lebanon. The burden they are bearing in these days is very heavy and I ask that you would comfort them. Send them humanitarian aid. Send them food rations. Send them rain in season and dry weather when needed. Hear the cry of your righteous people, and deliver them. We ask these things in the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

Dear brothers and sisters! As I was following the news over the last few days my heart cried, and I kept on wondering where on earth do you start helping after such a disaster? A disaster upon disaster upon disaster ... I can imagine you don't sleep well these days, if at all. I pray for you, that you will remain healthy, that God will protect all helpers against COVID-19. I pray that He will send the right people to the right places to help and give them the energy and the tools to do so. That He will touch, with His compassion, those injured or traumatized, that He will provide you with food for yourselves and to share with those in need, and that the peace that passes all understanding will find you again. My thoughts and my heart are with you!

Our hearts are burdened today for our brothers and sisters in Beirut. We especially send prayers for strength and hope to the teachers and students in the school and to the refugees to which they are ministering. Be assured of our prayers and support. Lord, have mercy!

We send our prayers to this great need. We spent time in our service this weekend praying for the needs in Lebanon. We are asking God to give peace and comfort to those who have lost loved one. We know God comes close to the broken hearted. We pray that God will sustain and give guidance in the days ahead as the people face horrific obstacles.

With loud laments, we cry out to you God. Lord, have mercy on the people of Beirut. Have mercy on those facing the loss of jobs and destruction or damage to homes. Help them to put their trust in you and to be sustained by your joy and peace. Have mercy on those coping with trauma in the aftermath. Help them find the resources they need to find healing. Show your favor on those coordinating and delivering supplies and food. Let the supplies reach and relieve the needs of the poor, the desperate, the elderly, and the disabled. Have mercy on the refugee peoples living in and around Beirut. Oh God, show forth the light of your hope and your love. Draw many into a saving relationship with the Lord Jesus. Preserve and keep them in safety, for you are a God who neither sleeps or slumbers. Have mercy on church leaders and churches as they prayerfully respond to the crisis and needs around them. Raise up your church to stand in the gap. Bring forth through them many testimonies of your redemptive power and love. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
